Here is my fashion twist on the old saying "April showers bring May... Florals, and Checks, and Plaids, Stripes, and Lace, Ruffles, Palms, and Polka Dots too!" All of these fun prints in either bold "crayola" or soft pastel colors are the trending spring/summer fashions. If these predicted trends don't give you diversity in your wardrobe, nothing will.
As I was researching Spring and Summer Trends for this year, my first stop was the Pantone, London Fashion Trend Report (published on store.pantone.com back in September of 2017.) As I scrolled the 2018 colors of the year, the first several were rich, bold colors such as Cherry Tomato and Palace Blue, but as I continued scrolling there would be a soft, whimsical pastel such as Ash Rose and Blooming Dahlia. Then there would be a nice neutral color such a Harbor Mist, Warm Sand and Coconut Milk. I giggled as I thought about how to relay this information to you. I jotted some notes and decided to head over to see what Cosmopolitan, Elle, Marie Claire and Vogue all had to say about the season's colors and prints. They all seem to agree... checks, plaids, stripes, sequins, sheer, lace, ruffles, "Palm Beach glamour", and of course my favorite, floral prints; with bright bold or soft pastel base colors are all HOT! These trends can be found on fashion tops, t-shirts, rompers, and dresses which are popularly worn on the shoulder, off the shoulder and with cold shoulders! Trending dress styles are oversized shirt dresses, apron, maxi, midi, and babydoll. (Another fashion area not lacking for options!)
As far as accessorizing your wardrobe this season; woven bags and purses are "in" as well as carrying more than one! I can't leave out Statement Earrings and Necklaces, these can be worn with any outfit, but I especially recommend them to add a pop of color and bling to your neutral tone outfits or basic tees! I'm not even going to start in on shoes, my short blog would turn into a 10 page report! :-)
My conclusion on the fashion trends right now is- Wear what YOU like. Wear what makes you comfortable with yourself. If you typically wear bold colors and prints; be YOU! If you prefer soft and subtle; stick with your pastels or neutrals, but also don't be afraid to mix it up and try something new because as far as I can tell ANYTHING goes! This makes me think of the quote by Maya Angelou "if you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be." So find your fashion groove this summer and own it!
What if each of us approached every day believing this truth: "YOU are God's masterpiece." (Eph 2:10)
